A 50-year-old man is set to face legal proceedings following his arrest for the alleged theft of money from his 74-year-old mother’s handbag in South Africa, as reported by Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD).
The arrest took place on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.
The incident unfolded on December 6, around 11 am, as the elderly complainant and her son were at home.

The mother briefly left the room to go to the bathroom, leaving her handbag, which contained an undisclosed amount of money.
Upon her return, she discovered her son was absent, and money was missing from the handbag. The mother asserted that she was certain her son had stolen the money.
The complainant also claimed that the week prior, her son had taken the memory card from her cellphone and a two-plate stove.
When confronted about these incidents, the man denied any involvement or knowledge.

Frustrated and weary of the repeated thefts, the mother filed a case of theft, leading to the arrest of the suspect, who was subsequently taken to the Daveyton police station.
The detained individual is expected to appear at the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court in the near future.
