Manchester United has reportedly opted not to sign Wout Weghorst on a permanent deal this summer. Instead, the club’s manager, Erik ten Hag, has created a four-man shortlist of alternative strikers. Weghorst, who is currently playing for Burnley, joined United on loan in January but has scored only two goals in 26 appearances since then.
While playing for Besiktas on loan during the first half of the campaign, the 6ft 6in Dutch target man managed to score nine goals in 18 games. Although he impressed at the Qatar World Cup for the Netherlands, he has not made much of an impact at Old Trafford.

He started in the first 19 games that he was available for in all competitions but has since been relegated to substitute appearances. He has yet to score in 13 Premier League matches, leading to criticism that he is not good enough for a club of United’s size.
According to Manchester Evening News, Weghorst will not make a permanent move to United this summer due to his struggles. The club is still looking for a new striker, with Tottenham’s Harry Kane as their primary target.
