A couple, Martin Ogiator and Wuraola Ogiator, have been arraigned before a Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court in Abuja by the police for allegedly defrauding Uchenna Ademiluyi of N71.3m.
They were arraigned on a four-count charge of breach of trust, cheating, conspiracy, and misappropriation, to which they pleaded not guilty.
According to police prosecutor Umoh Inah, the couple, who reside in Efab Estate, Lokogoma, fraudulently collected the sum through their bank accounts by falsely claiming they would execute contracts in some Federal Government agencies.
Instead, they allegedly diverted the funds for personal use. Inah said the couple’s actions violated the provisions of Sections 97, 312, 322, and 309 of the Penal Code.
The defendants were each granted bail in the sum of N20m with two sureties, who must have means of livelihood and reside within the court’s jurisdiction, among other requirements. The case has been adjourned till June 5.
