Doguwa declares bid for Speaker, says he has paid his dues

Alhassan Doguwa, the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives in Nigeria, has stated that he deserves to be compensated with the position of Speaker of the House due to his dedication to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the country over the last 30 years.

He announced his intention to contest for the position of Speaker of the House, stating that he is the most qualified candidate for the job as he has served as Chief Whip of the House and currently serves as Majority Leader. Doguwa has stated that his ambition will only be pursued if the APC zones the speakership position to the Northwest, which is his immediate constituency.

Doguwa emphasized his loyalty to the party and his commitment to working with his colleagues and all Nigerians to deliver on their expectations, while presiding over the House to the best of his ability in the overall interest of the people.

He also pledged to see through the implementation of the Renewed Hope 2023-Action Plan for a better Nigeria, which is anchored by the President-elect, Bola Tinubu.

He further dismissed concerns about his temperament, describing himself as a cool-headed person, and stating that his trial over an alleged murder will not impede his ambition, as the law presumes him innocent until proven guilty.

Doguwa’s candidacy is dependent on the APC zoning the speakership position to the Northwest, his geopolitical zone.
