Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has expressed its support for the bid of outgoing Governor of Ebonyi State and Senator-elect Dave Umahi to become Senate President, and has called on President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu to persuade Senators to amend their standing rules to achieve this.
In a statement, the secretary-general of the group, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, argued that while there are other qualified senators from the southeast, Umahi is the most suitable candidate for the position.

Isiguzoro claimed that Umahi’s Senate presidency would be strategic in Tinubu’s government, particularly in ending insecurity and the sit-at-home trend in the southeast. The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide believes that Umahi’s appointment would restore peace to Nigeria and bring about an end to Biafra violent agitations, sit-at-home protests, and the creation of an additional state, Aba State.
Isiguzoro added that the Senate should use the doctrine of necessity to allow Umahi, who is not a ranking senator, to become Senate President. He argued that the Senate has previously bent its rules to allow a first-timer to become the majority leader in 2015, and so should do the same for Umahi.
