The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Ogun State has decided to withdraw the petition it filed against Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Previously, the party had submitted a petition to the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Ogun claiming that its name and logo were not included on the ballot papers used in the March 18 election. The NNPP had sought the total cancellation of the election.

However, the chairman of the NNPP in Ogun, Olaposi Oginni, disclosed to reporters in Abeokuta on Sunday that the party had submitted a notice of discontinuance of the petition to the tribunal. Oginni noted that the same ballot papers used in Ogun were used in Kano State where the NNPP’s gubernatorial candidate had defeated the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The party plans to reassess its strategy ahead of the 2027 elections, and Oginni warned that if the petition were to proceed, it could disrupt Ogun State’s political system.
