Hope Carrasquilla, a US principal who was asked to resign following parent complaints over an art lesson featuring Michelangelo’s David sculpture, has visited the artwork with her family at Florence’s Accademia Galleria.
Museum director Cecilie Hollberg extended the invitation to Carrasquilla and her family, and said she was grateful for the visit. Carrasquilla was impressed by the gallery and said, “I think it’s beautiful. It looks like a church”.

The educator was asked to resign from her position at the Tallahassee Classical School in Florida last month after an art lesson featuring David was given to 11 and 12-year-old students. The lesson included an image of David, who is depicted entirely naked, and referenced Michelangelo’s “Creation of Adam” painting and Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus”.
One parent complained that the material was pornographic and others wanted to know about the lesson before it was taught.
