Adeyanju suggests appointment of renowned economist as next CBN governor to Tinubu

Deji Adeyanju, a socio-political activist, has advised the incoming administration of President-elect Bola Tinubu on the appointment of the next Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Adeyanju suggested that a renowned economist with experience working with international financial institutes like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank should be appointed as the next CBN governor, rather than a banker.

He urged Tinubu’s administration to avoid appointing bankers who, in his opinion, know nothing about the economy, and are just mere marketers.

Adeyanju’s comments come as the tenure of the current CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, is set to end in 2024. During the election period, the CBN implemented monetary policies that affected Nigerians and almost affected Tinubu’s victory.
