Thousands of Sudanese citizens have been fleeing into Egypt through the northern Arqin border due to the fighting between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces that erupted in mid-April.
Families are sleeping outside in the desert, waiting to cross the border while buses are lining up at the border area. According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, over 14,000 refugees from Sudan have crossed into Egypt since the outbreak of violence.

Additionally, another 2,000 people from 50 other countries or international organizations have also crossed or been airlifted to Egypt. The ongoing conflict has reportedly killed at least 512 people and wounded 4,200 others.
Tens of thousands of residents of Khartoum have also fled to neighboring provinces or existing camps within Sudan, which house victims of past conflicts. Despite close ties with the Sudanese military, Egypt has called for an end to the fighting.
