INEC awards certificates of return to three Imo state house of assembly members elect

Three members-elect of the Imo State House of Assembly have received their certificates of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the supplementary polls held on April 15.

The three assembly members-elect are Mr. Nkem Otuibe of Ahiazu Mbaise-APC, Chief Vitalis Azodo of Ideato South-Accord and Mr. Modestus Osakwe of Isu-PDP. The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Imo, Prof. Sylvia Agu, presented the certificates to the trio and congratulated them on their victory.

She expressed her appreciation to all the stakeholders involved in the conduct of the 2023 general elections for their support before, during, and after the polls. The certificates of return were issued within the 14-day period stipulated by Section 72 (1) of the Electoral Act, 2022.

In response, Otuibe thanked the REC for encouraging free and fair elections in the state and commended her for her capacity and strength. Osakwe, who is a first-time member-elect, expressed delight with the certificates and urged INEC to remain independent in future elections to ensure that only the right people were elected.

Similarly, Azodo urged compliance with electoral laws to ensure that only popular candidates were elected. He also promised to provide quality, effective, and efficient representation to the people of Ideato South State Constituency.
