FG declares public holiday to mark workers’ day

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Monday, May 1, 2023, as a public holiday to celebrate Workers’ Day. The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, made the announcement on behalf of the government in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Shuaib Belgore, on Friday. The minister commended workers for their diligence, hard work, and sacrifice, which have contributed to Nigeria’s progress and international reputation.

Aregbesola urged workers to maintain a culture of productivity, emphasising that it is the key to national and individual prosperity. The minister also called on workers to raise the bar in their trade in line with the administration’s agenda of upgrading governance and ensuring maximum benefits for all Nigerians. In addition, he applauded security agencies for their successes in the fight against criminal activities in the country, urging them to continue to deter criminals from causing harm to the public.
