Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has given orders for the immediate reconstruction of a failed culvert located at Kajola Akile along the Moro/Obafemi Awolowo University campus road in Ile-Ife. The reason for this directive was to prevent the continued loss of lives through accidents at the site.
About three weeks ago, a car fell off the culvert, which prompted the Governor’s intervention. The Director of Highways at the Ministry of Works, Engr. Basiru Bello, spoke on the Governor’s intervention concerning the bridge and urged residents and motorists to make use of the alternative route provided. He also assured that the project will soon be completed and opened for use.

The culvert, which had been in a state of disrepair for about 17 years, was neglected by previous administrations in the State because it is on a Federal Government road. This culvert is not too far from the main gate of the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife and is an essential route for vehicles heading towards the eastern parts of the country.
The failed condition of the culvert posed a serious danger to vehicles and motorcycle riders who could fall off while accessing it every day. Governor Adeleke ordered the immediate reconstruction of the culvert after being briefed on the frequent accidents that occur on it as a result of the structurally failed condition.
