Government halts construction of shopping complex in Ogun primary school

The government of Ogun State has disassociated itself from the construction of a shopping complex within the premises of a primary school in the state.

The government stated that it halted the controversial project after being made aware of it. Reports indicate that the Chairman of the Ado Odo Ota Local Government Area, Sheriff Musa, directed contractors to build the complex within the Nawair-Ud-deen Primary School 1, Atan Ota.

The sudden development sparked protests from stakeholders. Upon visiting the site, it was discovered that a banner advertising the structure was mounted on the school fence, and work had already commenced on the project within the school. The completed project would have disrupted learning activities within the school, as buying and selling would occur while pupils receive lessons.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, confirmed the incident and stated that the government had halted the project. Although the chairman admitted initiating the project, he claimed that the contractor acted without obtaining the necessary approvals from relevant agencies.
