Social media influencer, Chude, rearrested by Nigerian Police over alleged criminal defamation

Nigerian social media influencer and Labour Party supporter, Nnamdi Chude, has been rearrested by the Nigeria Police Force over alleged criminal defamation related to a tweet accusing an Anambra businessman of being hired by Nigerian ‘president-elect’ Bola Tinubu to beg Peter Obi to accept the result of the February 25 presidential election; the businessman in question sued him for the allegation which the police have reportedly used to remove him from the social media space, and he was first arrested in March and later in April.

His arrest followed a tweet in which he compared Governor Charles Soludo’s administration to that of former governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju, which fueled speculations that the Anambra State government was behind his detention; Chude was taken to Abuja after being arrested by security operatives over the weekend for reporting that thugs were allegedly operating under the directive of Governor Soludo’s political party, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), snatching ballot boxes and disrupting elections in 3’3 and Awada areas of the state during the State House of Assembly election.
