Gbenga Ogunfadeke, a 45-year-old father of three, has been arrested by the Amotekun Corps in Ogun State, Nigeria, for allegedly chaining and locking his two children in solitary confinement, leading to their death.
The suspect, who accused his children of stealing, reportedly kept them in solitary confinement for over three months without food and water, leading to the death of Yusuf Ogunfadeke (18 years) and Dasola Ogunfadeke (17 years). One of the children, who miraculously survived, narrated their experience to their aunt, leading to a complaint by their ex-wife and the suspect’s subsequent arrest.
However, he admitted to locking them up but denied not feeding them and being responsible for their deaths.
The hospital where he claimed the deceased children died in Ijebu Ode could neither be located nor where he allegedly buried them, further fueling the suspicion of killing them for possible rituals. The suspect had been maltreating the children since he took custody of them following his crashed marriage with their mother.
The case is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation to facilitate his prosecution.
