Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president of Nigeria, congratulated Umaru Fintiri on his re-election as the Governor of Adamawa State, hailing it as a victory for democracy. Fintiri, the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was declared the winner of the poll after a rescheduled collation exercise, beating his closest rival, Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier declared Dahiru the winner before the collation of results for the supplementary exercise had ended, but the Commission nullified the declaration.

Atiku praised the people of Adamawa and men and women of goodwill for resisting anti-democratic forces who sought to undermine the people’s mandate as freely expressed in their votes. He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against such forces and not to give in to their objectives.
Atiku, who was the PDP presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, expressed optimism about winning at the presidential election tribunal, where he is challenging Bola Tinubu’s emergence as Nigeria’s leader. He added that there was still one more major mandate to reclaim, and he called for unity among Nigerians to accomplish the task for the good of the country and its people.
