PDP Sen. candidate in Kogi, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, involved in auto crash on Abuja-Lokoja expressway

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 25th general election, was involved in a serious motor accident on the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway.

The incident occurred on Friday while she was challenging the victory of Abubakar Sadiku-Ohere, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who was declared the winner. Akpoti’s Sports Utility Vehicle hit a curb, causing injuries to the passengers in the car.

She was immediately rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, where she was initially unconscious but was resuscitated by the prompt response of the medical team. She later requested to be transferred to Abuja and was stabilized before being transported to the capital city.

Akpoti-Uduaghan had recently filed a petition at the Election Petition Tribunal challenging the results of her senatorial election. However, the APC candidate, Abubakar Sadiku-Ohere, had been evading service since the petition was filed, allegedly hiring thugs and police officers to guard his home and chase away the PDP lawyers attempting to serve him.

In the petition filed by her lawyer, Natasha is seeking the tribunal to declare her as the winner of the poll and to sack her opponent. During the National Assembly elections, Abubakar Sadiku-Ohere was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner with 52,132 votes, defeating the PDP flag bearer who had 51,763 votes.
