Messi and Mbappé featured on TIME's 2023 list of most influential people

Argentina’s captain Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain teammate Kylian Mbappé of France have been included in Time’s prestigious list of the 100 most influential people for 2023, recognizing their impact on the world of sports. The annual list, released by TIME on Thursday, 13 April, celebrates individuals who have made a significant mark on various fields.

Messi and Mbappé’s inclusion in the list comes after their outstanding performances in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where both players played pivotal roles in helping their countries, Argentina and France, reach the final.

In the thrilling championship match, Messi and Mbappé scored goals as the game ended in a 3-3 draw after 120 minutes of play. Argentina eventually claimed their third World Cup title through a penalty shootout.

Alongside Messi and Mbappé, other notable personalities in the TIME 100 list include President of the United States Joe Biden, who has appeared on the list six times, making him the most featured person this year, as well as figures like Elon Musk, Beyonce, Venus Williams, and Michael B. Jordan.
