Three opposition parties in Congo-Brazzaville have formed an alliance ahead of the upcoming elections, as veteran leader Denis Sassou Nguesso eyes a potential candidacy.
The “Alliance for Democratic Change in 2026,” announced on Thursday, includes grassroots-supported parties without legislative seats, such as the Rally for Democracy and Development, the Republicans’ Movement, and the People’s Party.

With a focus on bringing about political and democratic change in 2026, the alliance aims to address issues of corruption and electoral supervision in Congo-Brazzaville, which ranks low in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index.
Despite allegations of voting fraud and violence in past elections, the new alliance remains committed to fostering a fair and transparent electoral process.
