A 21-year-old member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, Jack Teixeira, was apprehended by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Thursday in connection with their investigation into leaked classified documents.
The documents, which were found online last month from the Defense Department, revealed details about the US spying on Russia’s war efforts in Ukraine and secret assessments of Ukraine’s combat power, as well as intelligence-gathering on America’s allies, including South Korea and Israel, as reported by NBC News.

Teixeira was arrested at a residence in North Dighton, Massachusetts, according to a statement released by the FBI bureau office in Boston on their official Twitter handle (@FBIBoston).
The FBI has been aggressively pursuing investigative leads since late last week, and Teixeira’s arrest exemplifies their commitment to identifying and holding accountable those who betray the country’s trust and put national security at risk.
Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that Teixeira was taken into custody Thursday afternoon “without incident.” Garland stated that Teixeira is being investigated for alleged unauthorized removal, retention, and transmission of classified national defense information, and that he is an employee of the United States Air Force National Guard.
