The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has given assurance to the residents of Sokoto State that the forthcoming National Assembly supplementary election will be conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner.
During a stakeholders meeting held at the party secretariat on Thursday, INEC’s National Commissioner for the election, Modibo Alkali, emphasized that the exercise in Sokoto will be one of the best in the country. Alkali reiterated the importance of all parties and their agents adhering to the rules of the game, as INEC is committed to supporting democracy and democratic processes.

“We will not waiver our responsibility to doing the needful. We want to avoid any confusion and safeguard against issues and misunderstandings,” Alkali stated.
He also urged party leaders and members to educate their supporters on peaceful conduct during the exercise, and emphasized that INEC remains a neutral body. Alkali further assured that security agencies are working in synergy to provide adequate security throughout the election.
“We are holding a second leg of such a meeting with all security agencies to harmonize measures towards a successful supplementary election conduct in the state,” he added.

Representatives of all registered political parties in Sokoto State who were present at the meeting pledged to abide by the rules of the game.
