FG and states spent N50bn of N400bn approved for poverty reduction - Gov. Sule

The co-chairman of the Technical Working Group of the National Steering Committee of the National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS), Abdullahi Sule, revealed that over N50bn has been utilized from the N400bn approved by President Muhammadu Buhari to reduce poverty and enhance growth in Nigeria.

Speaking to reporters after a committee meeting chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Sule emphasized that the committee’s mandate is a national assignment, not limited to any particular state. He further explained that in July 2022, the committee reviewed a presentation by the Technical Working Group and approved the N400bn allocation and its spending distribution.

However, Sule acknowledged that the performance so far is below expectations, with over N50bn already spent but progress made in various aspects of the 15 areas earmarked for spending under the NPRGS.
