Woman allegedly sets house on fire in retaliation after quarrel with husband

A woman residing in Rumuolu community in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, reportedly set fire to her own house after allegedly being beaten by her husband during a quarrel. The incident occurred on Tuesday, and though the cause of the argument was unclear, an eyewitness who requested anonymity confirmed the altercation took place.

In an apparent act of retaliation, the woman went inside their apartment and set it ablaze, causing damage to her husband’s property and rendering some tenants homeless. According to the eyewitness, the husband had beaten the woman during their argument and left the house.

The woman then took out her own clothes, bought kerosene, and used it to ignite her husband’s clothes inside the house, resulting in the fire spreading and destroying several rooms, including those occupied by other tenants.

The incident caused chaos, with tenants attempting to salvage their belongings but ultimately unable to do so. The whereabouts of the woman are currently unknown, but it has been reported that she has been arrested according to Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the state Police Command. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal and Investigation Department, and investigations are ongoing.
