Former federal lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye, has criticized Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for his recent remarks about the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) sponsoring him (Melaye) for the forthcoming governorship election in Kogi State.
In a media chat with Channels TV, Governor Wike had stated that Melaye lacks the qualifications to be a governor and if the people of Kogi State vote for him, it would mean they do not want development.

Melaye, in a statement titled ‘Wike and the Effluents from an Unsound Mind’, responded to Wike’s comments, accusing him of being unstable and engaging in pitiable melodrama. He referred to Wike as a self-appointed public office regulator who meddles in the affairs of states not under his jurisdiction.
Melaye also questioned Wike’s qualifications to be governor and highlighted his own experience as a former member of the Federal House of Representatives and twice-elected senator.
Melaye further alleged that Wike’s criticism stems from Melaye’s lack of support for Wike’s presidential aspirations in the 2023 general elections.
He accused Wike of recklessly mismanaging the resources of Rivers State and predicted that Wike may face legal consequences post-tenure. Despite Wike’s negative perception of the PDP leadership, Melaye expressed confidence in his own gubernatorial aspirations in Kogi State and vowed to focus on his campaign without being distracted by Wike’s remarks.
Melaye concluded by invoking a scriptural passage, expressing faith in God’s help and determination to overcome any challenges.
