Nigerian music sensation, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has recently shared in an interview on Hot 97FM in New York that his fellow Afrobeats artist, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly called Wizkid, reached out to him regularly on the phone after the tragic death of his son, Ifeanyi.
Davido revealed that he and Wizkid had a longstanding 12-year rift, but they started reconnecting after the loss of his son. He expressed gratitude for Wizkid’s support during such a difficult time, and acknowledged the positive changes he sees in the music industry and their relationship.
In the interview, Davido stated, “With Wiz, over the years we had a rift, for 12 years we had a rift up until recently he chatted up and I am seeing the positivity. I am seeing the change in the industry a little bit because everybody is calming down, especially with my situation; the tragic situation that happened, he called me every week since it happened.”
Davido and his fiancee, Chioma Rowland, sadly lost their son Ifeanyi in November 2022, shortly after his third birthday, due to a drowning incident at Davido’s residence in Banana Island, Lagos. The support from Wizkid during this difficult time has been a source of comfort for Davido.
It’s noteworthy to mention that Davido’s interview reflects the human side of popular musicians and sheds light on their relationships and emotions beyond their public personas.
