The candidate of the Labour Party has emerged as the governor-elect of Abia State, following his victory in the governorship election held on Saturday. After the completion of the collation of results, which had earlier been suspended, the State Returning Officer, Prof. Nnenna Oti, declared the candidate, Mr. Otti, as the winner of the election on Wednesday afternoon.

Mr. Otti won in 10 local government areas, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in six, and the Young Peoples Party won in one council area. In total, Otti polled 172,386 votes, while the PDP candidate polled 88,174 votes. After the collation of the outstanding results, the PDP polled 9,962 votes, while Otti polled 3,776 votes.
