Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, has issued an apology to a former employee who was terminated from the company. The designer, Haraldur Thorleifsson, who has a physical disability, had claimed that he was laid off without being notified.

This resulted in a heated exchange between him and Musk, with the latter accusing him of not doing any actual work and being independently wealthy.

Musk’s comments were met with criticism, with one Twitter user who claimed to have worked with Haraldur coming to his defense. In response, Musk spoke to Haraldur and apologized for how he had handled the situation.

He admitted that his understanding of the matter was based on misinformation, and that he had misunderstood Haraldur’s situation.

Haraldur is a physically challenged creative designer who founded a non-profit organization that constructs wheelchair ramps in Iceland. He also established a full-service creative agency called Ueno, which was acquired by Twitter in 2021.

Musk has been criticized for massive layoffs shortly after acquiring Twitter in 2022, which saw almost half of the company’s global workforce being fired in November 2022.
