On Tuesday, during a visit to Imo state as part of the ongoing 2023 presidential campaign for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President Muhammadu Buhari expressed his belief that Tinubu would succeed him as the next president of Nigeria.
Speaking at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Imo, where the campaign rally was held, Buhari thanked the people of Imo for coming out in large numbers to show support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, despite the hot weather.
In his brief address, Buhari said, “God willing, Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be delivered as the next president of Nigeria. I am here to thank you for coming out en mass no matter the hot weather to show solidarity and make sure that our presidential candidate is delivered as the next president of Nigeria. I want to say thank you.”
Tinubu, in his speech, described the APC as the most focused and dynamic party in Africa, promising to ensure the continuation of the party’s development programs if elected as president. He also promised to make Imo state a home of tourism and to add value to the state’s real estate sector. Tinubu also praised President Buhari’s leadership style, describing it as incorruptible.

Adams Oshiomole, the former governor of Edo state, who represented the Director General of the APC campaign, Solomon Lalong, urged the people of Imo state to vote for Tinubu, saying that he had brought hope and democratic governance to the state. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwolu added that the Igbo people in Lagos were behind Tinubu and thanked President Buhari for his support in all regional campaigns.
The governor of Ebonyi state, Dave Umahi, also expressed his gratitude to Tinubu for his support, saying that the South East region had shut down for him and that Imo people had shown their love for the APC presidential candidate. The governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodimma, thanked Tinubu for his support in the state’s infrastructure projects, saying that Tinubu had granted all their requests.
In his speech, Uzodimma said, “Imo and Lagos states are in competition to see who will bring the highest votes. The people of Imo asked me to tell you thank you for what you are doing for them. You supported us to construct Owerri-Orlu, Owerri-Okigwe, and Owerri-Umuahia roads among others.
You granted all our requests. When crude oil theft became a challenge, you granted us the establishment of a navy base. This is a payback time. Today being lovers’ day, we will show you love. Imo is an APC state. We will never disappoint you.”
