President Muhammadu Buhari has recently addressed the nation in a statement regarding the progress made in the fight against terrorism in the North-East region of Nigeria. He acknowledged that when his regime took office, the threat of Boko Haram was the most critical security challenge they faced. However, he is now pleased to report that normalcy has returned to the affected states and that his administration has been successful in “clearing” the terrorist group.
The President emphasized that his commitment to serve God and Nigeria has been unwavering throughout his term in office and will continue to be a priority until the end of his tenure and beyond. He called on all Nigerians to stay patriotic and to work together to salvage and improve the country, reminding them that they have no other country but Nigeria.

Additionally, President Buhari took the opportunity to address accusations of illicit enrichment or owning property outside of Nigeria. He stated that these accusations are unfounded and he is not in possession of any square-inch outside Nigeria. He also reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption, highlighting the measures his administration has taken in the past to hold corrupt individuals accountable, and acknowledging that the fight against corruption is not easy. He also mentioned that He was also jailed when he was in Military Head of state, so it’s not something that can be done easily.
The President also recognized the support and cooperation of Nigeria’s neighboring countries in the fight against insurgency. He recalled that his first visit outside the country in 2015 was to Niger and Chad, to gain support in tackling the misguided sect. He also thanked the Governor and people of Yobe state, including Senate President Ahmed Lawan, for their warm reception during his visit to Damaturu, the state capital.

Furthermore, President Buhari recognized the efforts of Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state for taking advantage of the return of peace and security in the state to execute people-oriented projects. He praised Governor Buni as very competent and courageous and fortunate to have him in the state to support federal efforts in decimating the Boko Haram terrorist group.
