Cristiano Ronaldo has caused a stir in Saudi Arabia after news broke that the country will reportedly make exceptions to its laws prohibiting non-married couples from co-habiting in order to accommodate the soccer star and his partner, Georgina Rodriguez.

Ronaldo, the highest paid footballer in the world after signing with Al-Nassr in December 2022 following a mutual termination of his contract with Manchester United, has five children with Rodriguez, whom he met while playing for Real Madrid in 2016.

Despite Saudi Arabia’s strict laws against unmarried couples living together, it is believed that Ronaldo will not face punishment due to his status as a highly marketable athlete. In fact, according to Daily Mail, two separate Saudi lawyers have stated that authorities are unlikely to get involved in Ronaldo’s situation, with one saying “although the laws still prohibit cohabitation without a marriage contract, the authorities have begun to turn a blind eye and do not persecute anyone.”
