On November 26, 2021, a shocking incident occurred on an Air India flight from New York to Delhi when a drunken man allegedly urinated on a female passenger in the business class of the plane. According to reports, the victim was a woman in her seventies who had been looking forward to a comfortable and peaceful flight home. However, her hopes were shattered when the man, who was reportedly highly intoxicated, unzipped his pants and relieved himself on her.

The incident occurred when the lights had been dimmed after a meal, and the woman was preparing to sleep. The man reportedly kept exposing himself even after urinating on the woman, and it was only when another passenger asked him to return to his seat that he eventually moved away. The victim was left humiliated and distressed, with her clothes, shoes, and bag soaked in urine. When she reported the incident to the crew, they allegedly offered her a new set of pyjamas and slippers and told her to return to her seat, claiming that no other seat was available.

The woman was deeply disappointed with the airline’s handling of the situation and felt that not enough had been done to address the man’s outrageous behavior. The next day, she decided to write a letter to the group chairman of Air India, N Chandrasekaran, describing the incident as the “most traumatic flight” she had ever experienced. In the letter, she detailed how the man had walked up to her seat completely inebriated, unzipped his pants, and exposed her to his private parts. She also mentioned how the man had initially refused to return to his seat, but eventually left the area after a few moments.

Following the incident, Air India took action and filed a police complaint against the man. An internal committee was also constituted by the airline, which recommended that the passenger be placed on the no-fly list. The matter is currently being reviewed by a government committee, and a decision is awaited. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has also sought a report from the airline on the incident and has stated that action will be taken against those found negligent.

In conclusion, the incident on the Air India flight was a deeply disturbing and traumatic experience for the victim, and it is fortunate that she was not physically injured. It is hoped that the authorities will take appropriate action to ensure that the man is held accountable for his actions and that such incidents do not occur in the future.
