Hon. Hassan Adamu Shekarau, former lawmaker for Birnin Gwari/Giwa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has made the decision to resign from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party ahead of next month’s general election. In a letter dated January 3, 2023, which was made available at the ministry in Abuja on Wednesday, Shekarau cited personal reasons for his departure from the party.
While he expressed his gratitude towards the members of the APC in Kaduna State who have supported him in the past, it remains unclear at this time whether he will join the Peoples Democratic Party. The letter stated, “This is to convey to you my decision to resign as a member of the All Progressives Congress with effect from 3rd January, 2023.”

It is worth noting that Kaduna State’s governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, is currently serving his second term in office, set to end on May 29, 2023. His closest ally, Uba Sani, who serves as Senator for Kaduna Central Senatorial District, is the APC’s candidate for governor. It remains to be seen how Shekarau’s resignation from the party will affect the upcoming election and the political landscape in Kaduna State.
