“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that it will no longer remain silent in the face of the constant outbursts and disrespect towards their presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, by the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike. It should be noted that Governor Wike had previously demanded the resignation of the PDP’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, as a condition for supporting Atiku in the upcoming February election. However, Wike has also consistently targeted Atiku with insults and disrespect. Most recently, on Monday, Wike mockingly commented on the endorsement of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, by Atiku’s former principal, Olusegun Obasanjo, stating that there must be something fundamentally wrong with Atiku.

In response to these actions, the PDP released a statement condemning Wike’s behavior and calling on him to be ashamed of himself. The statement, which was signed by the spokesperson and Director of Public Affairs for the PDP Presidential Campaign Management Committee, Senator Dino Melaye, stated that Wike should be ashamed of constantly seeking attention through his continuous disrespect and unwarranted insults towards Atiku, whom he has done nothing to wrong.
The statement went on to advise Wike to support whoever he wishes to support, as the PDP will no longer tolerate his insolent tendencies. The statement also raised the question of whether there is something wrong with Wike that his predecessor, Amaechi, did not hand over to him.”
