Edson Arantes do Nascimento, also known as the Brazilian great footballer, Pele, will be laid to rest this afternoon at the Memorial Necropole Ecumenical in Santos. The ceremony will be attended by only family.

There will be a procession through the city of Santos, where Pele made a name for himself as a player. His coffin has been on display at the Sao Paulo stadium during a three-day period of national mourning declared by the Brazilian government.

Many fans have been waiting in long lines outside the stadium, some even spending the night, to pay their respects to Pele, who is widely regarded as the greatest football player of all time.

Pele passed away on December 29 after a battle with cancer. It is said that he chose to be buried at the Memorial Necropole Ecumenical because it offers a view of the Santos stadium. Stay updated on the latest developments in Santos as Brazil honors and lays their football legend to rest.
